| The First Match |
| 2008.08.11 11:22:29 | |
|
August 11, 2008 7:10 PM Beijing Time Our first match is almost here, it seems like a very long time since we've been here on August 2nd but every has been busy. People would think we have a lot of time on our hands because we don't play until the 12th of August but we rarely have time. Our days usually consists of waking up around 7 or 8 in the morning and getting breakfast before our practice at one of the practice hall, the trip takes one hour back and forth if we're lucky. Then we usually come back to have lunch and head straight to Sports Medicine center for the U.S Team to get ice or treat for our nicks and pains. That usually take an hour or so, then we would have a little free time to use the internet or call back home family members, after that we would get ready for our second training session of either running or weight training, then dinner and then back to the Sports Medicine and finally back to our room at around 9:30PM so we can have some down time and relax. Just overheard James Blake asking about Badminton tickets, I guess he wanted to go watch so I said wassup to him, He just won his first round today and playing again on Tuesday. All the athletes have to get a special ticket in order to watch other sporting events which is very inconvenient, and some events are sold out and there's no way we can see them. Speaking of tickets, Sarah, our athlete service person just gave me the tickets I've request from the first few days I got to the village and it's for the USA Men's Basketball game tonight, so I will be there. Just wanted to update you guys about my days in San Jose for the team processing. We stayed at the new dorms at San Jose State, and it was pretty nice. We received 60 plus apparels to wear from Nike and Ralph Lauren. We had a busy schedule of team meetings of what and what not to do. They all warn us about blogging as well. There are things we can't say or photos we can post on our blogs so I guess it's all for security reasons. A lot of rules we have to follow but it's for our benefits. The University treated us like VIPs. Fresh fruit and great healthy selection of food. It was amazing. Our flight to Beijing was smooth even though I didn't get much sleep, we traveled with the Volleyball, Wrestling, Table Tennis, Fencing, and Track and Field. It was nice, no first class or anything. Another interesting and I get this question again, I was asked by a reporter from NBC "What country do I play for?" even though I'm wearing the USA jacket. I think I will be hearing that question a lot. Tags: Hits: 462 | Read more... |

| Two Days Before Departure |
| 2008.07.30 05:31:45 | |
|
We had our normal morning practice at 8am to 11am and I head over to my masseuse's house to massage my right shoulder, at around 11:45 am we felt one of the biggest earthquake in years, it said to be 5.4. Everything was shaking in the room, the drawers all came out and two juice bottles spilled in her kitchen. I ran out in my boxer brief to see what had happened. What a strange event. | 4th of July “Capital Concert” at the Capitol Mall |
| 2008.07.06 23:27:55 | |
|
The day started at 11:00 AM with a tour at the Capitol building, the nine of us and other important guests were there for the tour, and our tour guide was very informative and funny. We found out some very interesting things about the building, she showed us the bullet hole from the 1954 shooting and told us stories about the 1998 shooting where two securities lost their lives. All of my Olympic pictures will be posted on www.webecoz.com, you will have to sign up and log in for it in order to see the pictures. I still have a lot of videos I need to upload of the Olympic experience but I have just moved to Marblehead last week. Also don't have much help with the website any more. Mr. Lin is the man behind the scenes doing everything and putting up old school videos of myself playing.
It has almost been three weeks since I have been in the
Olympic village and just yesterday I found out about the free massage. There
are so many free perks here in the village that I have yet discover. So this
morning my legs were beaten like a drum by the masseuse, he was going to work
on my body parts after he massage it he played a note with his two fists. And
this whole time we have been paying for our massage outside the village.
We finally got our first match out of the way, it was overwhelming. Nothing could really prepare me for that moment when I was about to go out onto the court. I was so nervous, my heart was beating so fast and hard, I felt little weak in the knees too. And we started out 4-1 down to the South African team which is not good. Then we got a little comfortable and did our thing. The game was not as smooth as we liked to be but its nice to play bad and get a win. We will play better tomorrow for sure or our Olympics is over.
Hi Everyone,
I saw Rafeal Nadal today at the general store around the international zone just outside the Olympic village buying some daily supplies but everywhere he goes he is being mucked by volunteers, coaches and other athletes for pictures. It must be hard being him, I would love it for one day to get that kind of attention but after 5 years like I would probably get agitated as well. He seemed like he just wanted to be left alone. I don't like to approach these huge mega superstar athletes because I am sure they get ask to take picture so many times.
Last night we heard an explosion of fireworks above our building which lasted for a few minutes, they were preparing for the Opening Ceremony. I have a feeling it's gonna be great. We all woke up bright and early to go for a jog around the village and to get to know our surrounds. Then we head over the work out
Hi Everyone,

I haven't had the chance to write about my US Open experience yet because my laptop is kinda broken. Anyways, the tournament was weaker than previous years but I am still happy and relieved that we won. Winning a tournament is never easy especially a grand prix event. It feels good to finally win it again since my 2002 win with Tony. It means a lot to me because I can go out on top. And Howard and I have been playing really well lately, we won our last three tournaments that we played and was finalist at the one prior to that so we are riding the wave towards the Olympics. Winning in the Olympics would be the sweetest icing on the cake ever.
